The University of Halle and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, in Milan, began offering a dual master’s degree programme in business and economics back in the 2010/2011 winter semester. Students in the European and International Business programme study at both universities, in Germany and Italy, and earn a degree from each country. Alongside the Faculty of Law and Economics, the scholars of Romance languages and literature, and linguistics students in the Faculty of Philosophy II are already working closely with their counterparts in Milan. The partnership is being coordinated by professor of economy, Martin Klein.

The university has also maintained close cooperation with the University of Warsaw for years, especially in the area of student exchanges in the Faculties of Philosophy I and II. The aim of the new agreement is to make it easier for students from Halle to spend time at the university in Warsaw, for example by allowing them to study there tuition-free. The German-Polish partnership is being coordinated by Professor Yvonne Kleinmann and Dr Paulina Gulinska-Jurgiel of the Aleksander Brückner Center for Polish Studies. Plans also call for the further expansion of cooperation with the Polish university within specific disciplines in the faculties and at the Center for Polish Studies in the future.

In addition, the University of Halle has agreed in the summer to closer cooperation with two institutions in Russia and Turkmenistan: Memorandums of understanding were passed with the Novosibirsk State University in Russia and with the Dovletmammet Azadj Turkmen National Institute for World Languages in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The aim is to strengthen scientific and student exchanges.
